Taking inspiration from the landscape and natural environment, the tensions between the landscape and how we interact with it, both individually and collectively are examined. The essence of a theme is extracted to create simple, bold pieces which display a degree of harmony and serenity where the meaning of place is unearthed. This highlights the changing elements of landscape such as the layering, erosion and emerging patterns which reflects the evolution of the landscape and how we as individuals experience place.
By immersing oneself within such spaces, a sense of place is experienced, influenced by the ephemeral – climatic and seasonal conditions, as well as the constantly changing physical landscape. Through observational drawing, photography and extensive research, ideas are developed through a variety of printmaking techniques & installation pieces, which correlate with layers of the landscape, creating pieces which are connected to the landscape they depict.
The works primarily take the form of large scale process led print installations which have been distorted or fragmented to create movement and fluidity, whilst exploring line, shape, texture and space.
